Sacrificial Saving

imagesI was a director of only two years in 1996, when the idea of offering ultrasound at PRCs was introduced at a Focus on the Family conference. I watched in absolute amazement as the 9 week fetus entertained us. From that moment on, the desire to offer sonograms to abortion-vulnerable or determined clients became my number one priority.

We are a small center located in the heart of the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. We are supported mainly by blue collar workers who are passionate about life issues. Our budget had to expand to include this new endeavor, but how? With much prayer and in God’s timing, the door was opened to us in an unexpected way nearly 15 years later.

A local surgeon, who happened to have one of our donors as his nurse, upgraded his ultrasound machine and was planning to donate his eight year old machine to an overseas mission. Barbara told him about us and within a week we had our ultrasound machine. It arrived the day of our annual fundraising banquet. That night, I was able to share how God was bringing forth our vision. We received an outpouring of funds to remodel a room, retrofit the machine for ob ultrasound, provide a salary and send a nurse for sonography training. A week later, God brought our first nurse sonographer to us!

In 2011, the board of directors determined to set aside $10,000 every year knowing the machine would need to be replaced sooner rather than later. As well, we wanted to have funds to train any future nurses should the need arrive.

This year, we are training our third nurse and purchasing a new ultrasound machine – all due to the foresight and sacrifice of the board and staff of Aspire Women’s Center. At the close of each fundraising banquet, $10,000 is immediately set aside. Some years, we raise $30,000, some years not so much. This commitment has not been easy, but God has met EVERY ONE of our needs so that not one initiative (pregnancy support/parenting classes/abortion recovery/fatherhood programs) has been underfunded! This is all to His glory!
